DO YOU WANT CHEAPER HEATING OIL PRICES?

Community First has set up a new social enterprise that will reduce the cost of your domestic heating oil each time you place an order.
All you need to do to take advantage of the scheme is to pay an annual membership fee, which will cover as many oil orders as you need during the course of the year.
What’s the snag?
There isn’t one. The scheme is being promoted by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire, a long-established and well respected Wiltshire charity. By bringing communities throughout Wiltshire together and making the most of collective buying power, we can make savings and pass them to those with oil-fired central heating.
The environment benefits too
Delivery tankers use a lot of diesel – a full tanker can get as horrifyingly little as eight miles per gallon. If one tanker delivers to several customers in a village instead of making lots of dispersed deliveries, the fuel consumption is reduced and so is traffic in the village.
Annual membership fees
Domestic: £20,  Community Building £30,  Business: £100

5 easy steps to cheaper heating oil
Step 1: Join the CF Bulk Oil Buying Scheme (The Scheme)
Request a membership form from Jess Emery on 01380 722475 or apply via the Community First website www.communityfirst.org.uk
Step 2: Wait to hear from your local co-ordinator
The Scheme lets your village co-ordinator know that you have joined. Each month your co-ordinator will email you to ask whether you want to place an order. The minimum order is 500 litres.
Step 3: Place an order
Let your co-ordinator know you want to buy oil and the amount. Each month they submit a total village order to the Scheme. Each order increases the negotiating power, so, once submitted, an order is binding.
Step 4: Sit back whilst we negotiate the price
The Scheme negotiates the best price from a range of suppliers. Your co-ordinator will advise you who the supplier is, the price per litre (exclusive of VAT, currently 5%) and the approximate date of delivery.
Step 5: Take delivery of the oil and pay the company
The oil will be delivered as soon as possible and you make direct payment to the company supplying the oil.

Heating oil is known in the United States as No. 2 heating oil. In the U.S., it must conform to ASTM standard D396. Diesel and kerosene, while often confused as being similar or identical, must conform to their own respective ASTM standards. Heating oil is widely used in parts of the United States and Canada where natural gas is not available and propane is priced higher. Where other fuels are not available, it is sometimes referred to as the unit cost per unit (BTU=British thermal unit or BTUH / h per hour), and can be less than other fuels.
