Diamond Jubilee Event - A Chance to Showcase the Melksham area

The Wiltshire event to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee has been confirmed for Wednesday 1 May 2012 in Salisbury Cathedral Close.  It will be attended by a senior member of the Royal Family.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase our heritage in Wiltshire and our communities today.  The contribution of the Melksham area to this celebration will be vital and greatly appreciated as we mark this magnificent landmark for our Queen and our country.

We are looking for anyone or group who has something to showcase from the Melksham community area to get involved.  This could be some key historical feature or artefact, local businesses, specialist agricultural products, tourist attractions, arts and crafts or community groups.

The event will have a medieval atmosphere through the use of jousting tents and the ‘backdrop’ of the Cathedral and Magna Carta.  We are encouraging local groups who maintain traditions such as maypole dancing, morris dancing, bands, drama groups to become involved in the day too.  A programme schedule for the day will be drawn up and a ‘display area’ will be established for this purpose with each group providing short individual performances.

We look forward to showcase the past and future of the Melksham area and joining together to share collectively what makes Wiltshire the wonderful historic and vibrant County that it is today.

If you are interested in getting involved please contact Abbi Gutierrez, abbi.gutierrez@wiltshire.gov.uk or 01225 718443.
