Melksham Campus takes a step forward

Exciting plans to create a central hub for services in Melksham have moved a step closer as Wiltshire Council has completed the purchase of Melksham House and the Blue Pool site.

The council had been searching for a site to create the town’s own campus where people could access various services including leisure and sport, library and facilities for young people.

Following recommendations from Melksham Area Board, the council advertised for interested land owners in the area to come forward if they had a suitable site for consideration as a possible location for a campus.

The Melksham House site was put forward as a potential site by its owners Cooper Tire and Rubber Company.

Cabinet member with responsibility for campus development Stuart Wheeler said:
“I am really pleased we have been able to complete the purchase of this site. The Melksham House site is in a central location and we are grateful for the local feedback which helped us secure this site for a potential campus for the town.

“We also like to thank the area board and the Shadow Community Operations Board (COB) for their hard work and Cooper Tire and Rubber Company  for working with us on securing the sale of this land.”

Roy While Chairman of the Melksham Shadow COB said: “Exciting times are ahead and we shall work closely with the community and the council to ensure we have the best campus facility for our town. We can now move forward positively and we shall keep the people of the Melksham community area informed and involved through a central access point and informal meetings.  Things are certainly looking up for our community area.”
