Calling all Volunteers to Join Us Celebrating VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK 2012 at the Devizes Jubilee Big Lunch

The Volunteer Centre Wiltshire team will be joining in the festivities at the Devizes Jubilee Big Lunch on Sunday 3rd June to promote Volunteers Week and the exciting volunteering opportunities open to members of the public.

One of GROW’s services, Volunteer Centre Wiltshire, will be celebrating National Volunteer’s Week at the Devizes Jubilee Big Lunch as Volunteers Week this year coincides with the Jubilee celebrations.

Volunteers Week is an annual event which celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK, and takes place from the 1st - 7th June. The Week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.  Individuals are actively encouraged to use this week to find out more about volunteering and the tremendous benefits it contributes to individuals and our society.

Joining the Volunteer Centre Team will be the Community Development Team, another service from GROW, they will be offering information and guidance to voluntary organisations and community groups as well as discussing local volunteering opportunities that suit your interests. Both teams will be there between 12-5pm at The Green in Devizes.
Speaking about last year’s event one of Volunteer Centre Wiltshire’s regular volunteers Catherine Beale from Chippenham said; “I help out with tasks like keeping the office supplies replenished, getting mail outs ready and general office support. I enjoy volunteering as it enables me to get out and meet people and it makes me feel useful. If I didn’t volunteer I would miss the company and being a member of society.”

Volunteer Centre Wiltshire currently have over 800 volunteering opportunities waiting to be filled across Wiltshire, there are lots of things to get involved with for example you could volunteer to cook for homeless people, support people with learning difficulties, work with animals, be a Witness Support Worker or even be a Wildlife Watch Leader supporting 8 -13 year olds to get hands on experience of nature.

“Volunteers’ Week is a fantastic opportunity for people to find out what volunteering is all about and the benefits that it provides. We hope to speak to as many people as possible to raise awareness about volunteering and the huge variety of opportunities we have available” said Simone Lord, Volunteer Centre Manager.
